MARKING IDEVAW 2016 AROUND THE COUNTRY

Jewish Women’s Aid Day of Action – Awareness Raising in the Community: London, Manchester & Leeds

To mark the U.N.’s international day of awareness raising, JWA held events to raise awareness of domestic violence and abuse.

London:

Date: Thursday 24th November

Location: Brent Cross

Our annual day of action at Brent Cross enabled us to speak to a huge number of people to inform them about the services we and our partner agencies can offer women and children affected by domestic violence and abuse. JWA coordinated the stand on behalf of our partner agencies in Barnet, and we were joined by Solace Women’s Aid, Barnet Asian Women’s Association, Barnet Domestic Violence Service, Victim Support and others. JWA’s trustees, volunteers and staff were there over the course of the day, talking to shoppers and raising awareness.

Visitors to the JWA side of the stand over the course of the day included the Chief Rabbi and other prominent communal figures.

Manchester:

Date: 22nd November

Location: Manchester Metropolitan University

Our Manchester volunteer team hosted a play about domestic violence, called Black Eyes & Cottage Pies. It was put on together with Manchester JSoc, in conjunction with Essential Safeguarding.

Leeds:

Date: 1st December

Location: MAZCC

Our IDEVAW event in Leeds was a talk by West Yorkshire Police on the new laws relating to coercive behaviour.
