“Thank you so much for inviting me to attend the Introduction Course. It was a real eye-opener and I feel that I am now much better equipped to detect and deal with situations of family violence”. Rabbi Yuval Keren, December 2015

Jewish Women’s Aid runs training programmes to raise awareness of Domestic Violence & Abuse in the Jewish community. The courses provide tools to professionals inside and out of the Jewish community who work with and support women and children affected by Domestic Violence and Abuse.   The courses are offered twice a year at JWA’s own office, and we also run bespoke whole-professional-team trainings at synagogues and communal organisations.

The courses include:

  • Defining domestic abuse
  • Myths and facts around domestic abuse
  • Barriers to seeking help in abusive relationships
  • Case studies
  • Identifying a woman affected by abuse
  • Skills building for practical and emotional support
  • Supporting children living alongside abusive relationships
  • Domestic violence in the Jewish community

“Thank you for the two sessions I attended last month with JWA. I thought they were both excellent and will stay with me for a long time. Wherever I am placed next year, I will be suggesting that we invite you to come and speak.” Student Rabbi Nathan Godleman December 2015

PAST BESPOKE TRAININGS INCLUDE:  UJIA, Board of Deputies, London Borough of Barnet, Jewish Marriage Council, United Synagogue Chesed volunteers, United Synagogue Student Chaplaincy, Noam Masorti Youth madrichim, Liberal Jewish Youth madrichim, Paperweight, Singular Challenge, HomeStart Barnet & Harrow volunteers, Jewish Bereavement Counselling Service, Barnet Fire Service, as well as doctors, teachers, SENCOs, counsellors, health visitors, maternity nurses and social workers.

“Home-Start Barnet is extremely grateful for the support we receive from Jewish Women’s Aid.  Our volunteers support families in their own homes, offering emotional and practical support on a weekly basis.  Many of our families have been victims of domestic abuse and it is therefore important that our volunteers have robust and extensive training, enabling them to provide the appropriate support.  This is facilitated twice a year by Lee Wax to our potential volunteers, some of whom have been abused themselves.  The training is extremely professional, comprehensive, informative and interesting.  The feedback from volunteers is always very positive, they enjoy the session as it is delivered in a very engaging way and they find the information extremely useful when working with families.  We would like to thank all at Jewish Women’s Aid for their continued help and support, their professionalism, knowledge and guidance is invaluable to our service.” Luci Yellon, Home-Start Barnet
