Anti-Semitism is deterring Jewish women who suffer domestic abuse from seeking help, City Hall told 08.11.2023

Noah Vickers, Evening Standard, 8th November 2023

Jewish women suffering from domestic abuse have become less willing to come forward for help because of the capital’s recent rise in anti-Semitic incidents, City Hall has been told.

London’s Victims Commissioner Claire Waxman said Jewish women are “choosing to stay with their abusers” because they are afraid of encountering anti-Semitism if they leave their homes.

What’s more concerning to me is that Jewish victims of domestic abuse are not engaging in the safety plans. They are choosing to stay with their abusers as opposed to leaving high-risk, abusive relationships, because of this overriding fear at the moment of anti-Semitism.
